THE JAZZ EPISTLES - JAZZ EPISTLE - VERSE 1
- Original Continental 14 made in Africa 1960.
- Visually graded as Excellent, clean & shiny with only a couple of minor un-feelable marks with no groove wear. A udio grading is Excellent, loud & clear with exceptional clarity.
- The cover is graded at VG+ with a nice clean cover with strong, vivid colours. Please see large versions of pictures.
- A point of interest of this particular gem is on the back cover of the album. The details of t he original retailer in Ndola, Zambia are stamped on the lower right corner, including the stores 4 digit phone number.
- From Wiki ; The Jazz Epistles were South Africa's first important (albeit short lived) bebop band. Inspired by Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, its members included Dollar Brand (later known as Abdullah Ibrahim) on piano, Kippie Moeketsi on alto saxophone, Jonas Gwangwa on trombone, Hugh Masekela on trumpet, Johnny Gertze on bass, and Early Mabuza or Makaya Ntshoko on drums. The group became famous after performing in the jam sessions called Jazz at the Odin in the Odin Theater in Sophiatown.
- In 1959 just before breaking up, Jazz Epistles recorded the first album by a black South African band, Jazz Epistle, Verse 1.
GRADING :-
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
Packaging: Records are removed from covers, placed in an outer sleeve and secured between fine bubble wrap and layers of stiff cardboard before boxing.
