For auction is a superb condition 1st UK Mono pressing of the first Beatles album Please Please Me. Original first press black and gold labels with the four Dick James label credits on:

"I Saw Her Standing There", “Misery", “Do You Want To Know A Secret" and “There's A Place"

Matrix numbers: Side 1: XEX 421-1N; Side 2: XEX 422-1N . Mother/ stampers. 1GR and 1 GD

Original first press sleeve and original ‘Use Emitex’ inner sleeve.

The original first press sleeve is in as good condition as any I have seen. All edges fully intact and spine fully readable. Has the Angus Mcbean photo credit in correct position for first press. Front laminate fully intact with only minimal corner wear. The opening is also in great condition. No tears. Back fold-overs are all in great shape. Very minor mottling. The only issue is a previous owner wrote name on back, but this is small and unobtrusive. Compared to most examples I have seen this is a clear Excellent-.

Original Emitex inner in great shape. Very minor creasing but no splits or tears or writing.

Now for the record. Again this visually seems excellent. Has original Black and Gold labels in superb unmarked condition with no writing, tears or scratches. Spindles also very clean. As stated above, has correct Dick James credits.

The vinyl has still got most of its original sheen - remarkable for a record of this age. There are some very minor scuffs and hairlines and one visible mark on tracks 6 and 7 on side 2, but nothing that affects play.

Vinyl audio - play testing this album was an absolute pleasure. The sound was pure and bright. There was only occasional minor crackling between a few of the tracks and two quiet clicks at the start of track 6 side 2. Otherwise absolutely no pops, sticks, skips or jumps. Amazing for a 54 year old record of this standing. I grade this as excellent +.

All in all this is a superb example of an iconic first press classic.

Have done another clean and play test. Record looks superb and the playback also. As far as i could tell, apart from the lightest of clicks listed above, there are no other distractions or noises apart from what was recorded. It seemed as clear as a new record. Any slight crackling is only between a couple of the tracks but never during them.
